New students arrive on campus on Friday, August 28th, 8:00am
Campus Changes
The Simon Center café is undergoing a significant renovation. Soon after you arrive, Chartwells (our food service provider) will open a dining area featuring their signature products: Mondo Subs, Coyote Jack’s Grill and Outakes Cuisine. You will also find a new and comfortable seating area outside of the Great Room. The café menu selection will round out our diverse campus food service options. The college is also planning to break ground for the outdoor turf field in September. The field will be an outstanding addition to our athletic and recreational facilities. There will, however, be some disruption to campus parking during the academic year. To help alleviate this concern, a new parking lot will be constructed near the West Lot after the turf field project is complete. Finally, the high ropes course is now finished. Our Outdoor Leadership, Adventure Bound and other student organization members will benefit greatly from both the high and low ropes courses on our own Mt. Belmont. Sign up for an exciting team building session after you arrive on campus!
Move-in
The residence halls and Simon Center open for new students at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28th. Unless you have received approval by Residence Life and Housing to move in early for athletics or employment (contact the office at reslife@nec.edu or 603-428-2242 for more information), you should arrive on campus on that date. You may find a line of cars backed up on Highway 114 through 9:30 am that morning, so it would behoove you to arrive an hour or two after opening. Upon arrival, you will need to check in with a Campus Safety Officer, drive up to your residence hall, quickly unload the car and move it to a designated parking lot. Our Pilgrim Pride Leaders and Resident Advisors will be there to assist with your move-in. With your cooperation, the process will go smoothly for all of our new students.
Check-in
After moving into your residence hall room, your next stop will be the Great Room in the Simon Center. Check-in will take place from 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 28th. The check-in process involves a number of mandatory “pit stops” and “detours” that you will need to follow to complete the first day race. Once you do so, your parent(s) may depart campus (suggested time is 4:30 pm) - you’ll be off and running.
Please feel free to contact me via email at ebraun@nec.edu or (603) 428-2241 if you have questions prior to your departure for campus. As always, we in Student Development and our colleagues throughout the college plan to work closely with you to make this a successful and memorable first year.
