NEC Trustee Performed in NH Premiere of "Speak Truth to Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark"
On Saturday, October 17, the New Hampshire premiere of “Speak Truth
to Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark,” by Pulitzer Prize winning
playwright and novelist Ariel Dorfman, was presented at the
Stockbridge Theatre at Pinkerton Academy in Derry.
“Speak
Truth to Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark” is Dorfman’s stage
adaptation of the book by Kerry Kennedy. The production chronicles the
lives of 51 defenders of human rights from around the globe. Stories
include the experiences of both internationally recognized human rights
advocates and those whose names are unknown.
Katrina Swett, a
member of the New England College Board of Trustees, read the part
of the Sixth Voice. Dr. Swett is President and CEO of the Lantos
Foundation for Human Rights and Justice. She served as the Director of
the Public Policy program at the New England College School of Graduate
and Professional Studies from 2004-2006.
Additional members of
the production of “Speak Truth to Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark”
included Maxine Kumin, poet and visiting writer to the New England
College MFA in Poetry program; radio personality Mike Morin; author
Rebecca Rule; and NHPR host Virginia Prescott. The New Hampshire
producer and director is Dana Biscotti Myskowski, a lecturer in
scriptwriting at New England College.
