October 2-4, New England College Readies For Homecoming 2009
New England College’s celebration of Homecoming Weekend, October 2-4, features programs and activities for students, families, and alumni of the College. Among the highlights of the weekend are the Annual Alumni Awards Dinner, the induction of students into the Alpha Chi Honor Society, class reunions, an art show, Brewfest, and Renaissance Fair.
This year’s Homecoming honors the many alumni who attended the New England College campus in Arundel, West Sussex, England from 1971 to 1996. Through the generosity of Jimmy Ferro, Class of 1974, an exhibition of photographs and artifacts chronicling the Arundel experience, will be on display in the Simon Center. In conjunction with the Arundel theme, the College will host a Renaissance Fair featuring food, storytellers and musicians.
For those interested in athletics, a number of alumni and varsity games are scheduled. Alumni will have the opportunity to participate in men’s and women’s lacrosse games as well as baseball. Varsity games include men’s and women’s soccer with Wentworth Institute and field hockey with Salve Regina University.
In a special opening reception from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, the New England College Gallery presents the work of artist Tom Blackwell. Blackwell’s exhibition, “Image as Metaphor,” incorporates allegorical themes with photorealist techniques.
“Homecoming is truly an opportunity to celebrate the life of the College,” noted Michelline Dufort, Vice President of Advancement at New England College. “There is a wonderful connection that develops between current students and alumni of the College as they realize that they all share a common academic and life experience. By including parents and families, we are able to extend the NEC community to those who are most important to our current students.”
