The United States Congress has appointed Dr. Katrina Swett to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF). Dr. Swett, a Trustee of New England College, joins the independent, nine-member, bipartisan group as its newest Commissioner. The Commission is charged with reviewing violations of religious freedom around the world and recommending new policy to the President, Secretary of State, and Congress.
Dr. Swett is the President and CEO of the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice. The organization was founded to carry on the humanitarian work of her father, fourteen-term California Congressman Tom Lantos. The mission of the Lantos Foundation is to promote decency, dignity, freedom, and justice around the world.
Dr. Swett recently appeared on C-SPAN’s Q & A program to discuss the work of the Lantos Foundation and Tom Lantos’ lifelong commitment to human rights.
