A first-year student would generally take five 3-credit classes for a total of 15 credits; though 1-credit classes in areas such as CPR and fitness are available. As a first-year student, all five of your classes are pre-selected for you to ensure that you begin to fulfill specific requirements for graduation. You may still rearrange and select different courses based on your interests if you like. Below is a sample of the first semester courses that may be pre-selected:

For the courses that you may select on your own, it is a good idea to take the introductory course for that major, i.e. Introduction to Business, Introduction to Criminal Justice, or Introduction to Psychology. The Course Schedule will help you view what classes are available for the upcoming semester. Be sure to view the Academic Catalog to check if the courses you have selected from the Course Schedule do not require prerequisites. If a course you have selected does require a prerequisite you will have to complete those classes prior to taking that class. If you are a transfer student, your schedules are not pre-selected and we encourage you to contact the The Pathways Center for academic advising. If you have any questions about course registration, please refer to the NEC Blackboard  online orientation site, ‘NEC 201’. In addition, the Pathways Center is always available to answer any scheduling questions, and can be contacted at 603-428-2218.
