Biology Dept.New England College is located in a pristine natural setting of diverse terrestrial and aquatic habitats. From cell to organism, students examine the structure and function of living systems. In addition, students are provided with opportunities to study the design of the ecosystem that supports these structures. Majors and non-majors alike find that NEC’s biology curriculum provides a tool for understanding the processes that occur in the natural world.

Lectures and classroom work are enhanced by extensive laboratory and field studies. Students receive training in a broad range of subjects including the traditional disciplines of chemistry, mathematics, and physics. Majors are encouraged to conduct their own research projects under the guidance of experienced faculty, and to participate in volunteer or internship opportunities to further their personal and professional aspirations.

The breadth of NEC’s biology program ensures competence in a wide range of disciplines and better prepares our graduates for further study and professional opportunities. NEC graduates have found success as scientists, physicians, medical technicians, state and fishery biologists, environmental educators, and secondary school teachers.
