NEW HAMPSHIRE YOUNG WRITERS CONFERENCE

For high school students, NEC has sponsored and hosted the New Hampshire Young Writers Conference for the past two years. The College’s faculty feature prominently in this program that has brought close to 100 of the state’s aspiring writers to Henniker for a day of workshops and community readings. Professor MacNeil led workshops in both 2006 and 2007 and Martha Andrews Donovan, Associate Professor of Writing, conducted a workshop for both high school writers and teachers at the 2007 conference.

Kevin Harvey is fond of quoting nineteenth-century American philosopher William James’ admonition to, “love your subject and respect your students.” In just a few words, that describes the driving force behind Harvey’s teaching philosophy at New England College. The recipient of the 2007 Robert A. Kilgore Faculty Award, Kevin Harvey has spent more than twenty years in NEC’s classrooms.
