At the core of the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy program is the development of critical reflection, good reasoning, and an understanding of the relationship between ideas and theory and the reality and practices of our time. The curriculum for the degree in Philosophy program at New England College begins with the premise that individual meaning requires an understanding of, and engagement with, the broader concepts of cultural and political thought and change.

By pursuing a Bachelor in Philosophy, students learn skills in critical reflection, reasoning, and the evaluation of evidence as well as effective oral and written communication.

Majors in the philosophy program may pursue a general course of study or concentrate in the philosophy of religion. As a second major, the study of philosophy can help to inform the study of the social and natural sciences, literature, and the arts. Connections may also be made to other programs of professional study including business, law, medicine, environmental studies, or education.
