Pathways-Tutoring Center
at the Danforth Library

The Pathways-Tutoring Center at the Danforth Library, located on the second floor of the library, offers academic tutoring, free of charge, to all students enrolled at New England College. We believe that students experience higher levels of academic success when they take charge of their own learning. Therefore, the primary objective of the Pathways-Tutoring Center is to facilitate academic success while encouraging students to become independent learners.

The Pathways-Tutoring Center at the Danforth Library is staffed by professional tutors who primarily focus on core academic needs such as writing development and mathematics, while working closely with faculty and staff to encourage students to excel in their academic goals. The professional tutors employ a variety of academic strategies to address the individual needs of students in a welcoming and supportive environment. Scheduled and drop-in tutoring is provided by the professional tutors in writing development, critical reading skills, time management, study techniques, test-taking strategies, and goal-setting processes, as well as select subject tutoring in a number of academic disciplines, including mathematics. The professional tutors also work closely with the faculty of the writing department to support first-year students enrolled in the College Writing courses. The tutors familiarize themselves with all of the writing course materials and suggest strategies for students to use in revising their work to become better writers.

A recent study of student success at the Pathways-Tutoring Center found that 89% of students who met with a professional tutor six or more times a semester received a semester grade point average of 2.00 or above.

The Pathways-Tutoring Center at the Danforth Library also oversees accommodation testing for students with learning differences, and offers a wide range of peer-tutoring services in certain content specific areas to supplement the professional tutoring services.

The Tutoring Center is open six days a week (most days from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) For an appointment, please call or email the Coordinator of Tutoring, Megan Beeso, at (603) 428-2276 or mbeeso@nec.edu.

Student Quotes

“During my years at New England College the fondest memories I have are with the Tutoring Center. There are no words to truly express what they do for the students. Not only do the tutors go beyond their jobs to help students with their schoolwork, but also they take a personal interest and get to know the students. No matter whether you use their services one time or are a regular student, the tutors are always willing, with their warm smiles and big hearts, to take the time to check in to see if you’re getting enough help with schoolwork, or just to make sure you are doing okay. I can say that without the Tutoring Center I would not have been able to succeed with my schoolwork. They are all the unsung heroes of New England College.”
