As the NEC mission statement clearly states, "New England College emphasizes experiential learning as an essential component" in the development of students, as well as "ethical and responsible citizenship, including service to the community." Career and Life Planning (CLP) is committed to that mission.
We at CLP also know that employers increasingly look for "day-one competencies" and skills when they hire students for summer, part-time or full-time jobs after graduation. Even internships require a certain amount of professional development at the outset.
For all these reasons, CLP encourages students to volunteer in the community. We have developed a network of community partners who seek the kind of help that student volunteers can give. And what's more... CLP can even arrange for students to be paid for valuable work in the community, if they have been awarded Federal Work Study as part of their financial aid package.
