New
England College’s program in art and art history provides a
knowledge of the basic means of visual expression and a broad
exposure to the history of art. Bachelor of Art History majors acquire a foundation for
professional or graduate study or careers in teaching, museum work,
and studio and commercial art. Students in our art programs may choose to be a professional in art history or specialize in
general studio art, graphic and communication design,
painting/drawing, photography, or art history.
"As a Senior at New England College, I took part in the wonderful Art Department that NEC offers. When I started here I never pictured myself as an art student. With the help of Professor Inez McDermott, I became enamored with Art History. Since then I traveled to Paris, France. During that time I visited the Louvre, Musee D’Orsee and Saint Sulpice, I walked with my Dad and explained paintings, murals, and sculptures with ease. It was the best time of my life, and to have that opportunity to explain things to my Dad and show him what I learned is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Without the guidance of the NEC Art Department I never would have had this opportunity to learn about the art world and its influences in modern life. Students around the world should have this opportunity to understand the beginnings of our cultures. Without art the world would be completely different than it is today."
