Acumen Founder and CEO Jacqueline Novogratz to lead NEC Commencement
The CEO of Nonprofit Global Venture Fund and Winner of the Forbes 400 Lifetime Achievement Award to Deliver Keynote Address and Receive Honorary Degree from New England College.
New England College is pleased to announce Jacqueline Novogratz as its 2017 Commencement Speaker and Honorary Degree recipient. One of the most revolutionary players shaping philanthropy today, Ms. Novogratz is Founder and CEO of Acumen, a nonprofit social venture fund changing the way the world tackles poverty.
Founded in 2001, Acumen invests philanthropic capital to create sustainable businesses that serve the world’s poor. A pioneer of impact investing, the organization has invested more than $106 million in nearly 100 companies across Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia and the United States. In 2016, Ms. Novogratz received the Forbes 400 Lifetime Achievement Award for her idea of leveraging the best of business to address the problems of poverty and building a new generation of social entrepreneurs. She has chronicled her journey to Acumen in several TED Talks and New York Times best-seller The Blue Sweater: Bridging the Gap Between Rich and Poor in an Interconnected World.

Prior to founding Acumen, Novogratz founded and directed The Philanthropy Workshop and The Next Generation Leadership programs at the Rockefeller Foundation. She also co-founded Duterimbere, Rwanda’s first microfinance institution. Novogratz began her career in international banking with Chase Manhattan Bank. She currently sits on the Oxford Said Global Leadership Council and the Harvard Business School Social Enterprise Initiative Advisory Board. Novogratz serves on the boards of the Aspen Institute, IDEO.org, and Sonen Capital. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
