Abro leads Bison past Pilgrims
Nichols College women’s soccer forward Samantha Abro (Northborough, Mass.) recorded a hat trick leading the visiting Bison past the New England College Pilgrims 3-0 Saturday afternoon. With the win the Bison improve to 7-8-0 overall and 4-6-0 in conference play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 6-7-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the conference.
The two teams would battle through much of the opening half scoreless before Abro would put in a nice touch pass from Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) in the 37th minute.
Nichols would extend their lead to 2-0 at the 61:43 mark as Katelyn Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) would center the ball for Abro who would fire a shot over the Pilgrim keeper.
Abro would complete the hat trick in the 76th minute as she would dribble around the NEC defense and record her nineteenth goal of the season unassisted.
The Pilgrims would finish the game out shooting the Bison 14-10 and hold the slight 3-2 advantage in corner opportunities.
Picking up the win in net for Nichols was Nicole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.) who finished with an impressive 11 saves. In net for NEC was Kerry Hughes (Wallkill, N.Y.) who finished with four saves on the afternoon.
The Pilgrims return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 21 when they host conference opponent Endicott College at 3:30 p.m. The Bison will host conference opponent Eastern Nazarene College on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 3:30 p.m.
