Ayotte leads Pilgrims past Amcats
Sophomore forward Marissa Ayotte (Feeding Hills, Mass.) recorded her first career hat trick on Saturday to lead the Pilgrims past conference opponent Anna Maria College 6-0 in Paxton, Mass. With the win NEC improves to 6-2 overall and picks up their first conference win, moving to 1-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.
The Pilgrims wouldn’t waste much time as Ayotte would net an unassisted goal just 2:18 into the opening half to put NEC up 1-0. Ayotte would add another goal at the 13:20 mark in the first followed by a Heather DiNapoli (Concord, N.H.) goal at the 15:33 mark putting the Pilgrims up 3-0.
Anna Maria would silent the Pilgrim offense for the remainder of the first half but Ayotte would complete the hat trick scoring eight minutes into the second half, stretching the lead to 4-0. NEC’s Holly Soule (Littleton, N.H.) and Khatianna Evans (Wayne, Maine) would tack on goals of their own late as the Pilgrims would cruise to the 6-0 victory.
Picking up the win in net for the Pilgrims was Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) who recorded three saves on the afternoon.
