Balanced scoring lifts Pilgrims past Colonels

New England College’s Emily Tanguay, Brandi Vittum and Jodie Dresser each netted four goals helping to lift the Pilgrims past the visiting Curry College Colonels 20-17 Tuesday afternoon. With the win the Pilgrims even their overall record at 6-6 and improve to 4-3 in TCCC action. The loss drops the Colonels to 9-5 overall and evens their conference record at 3-3.


 

NEC would jump out to an early 4-1 lead and extend the lead to 10-5 with just 9:04 remaining in the opening half.  Curry would close the gap in the final minutes of the first scoring the final four goals of the half and head into intermission down just 9-11.

 

The Pilgrims would open the second half netting two quick goals but again the Colonels would respond with three goals in a row from Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, Mass.) cutting the Pilgrim lead to 14-13 with 18:33 left to play.  The two teams would continue to battle closely throughout much of the second half as NEC would hold on to the one goal lead up 17-16 with 10:26 on the clock.  The Pilgrims would score the next three goals, including two by Tanguay (Manchester, N.H.) building their lead to 20-16 with just over a minute remaining.  Curry’s Hansbury would net her tenth goal of the afternoon with 31 seconds remaining but it would not be enough as the Pilgrims would hold on for the 20-17 victory.

 

Leading the way for NEC was Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H.) and Emily Tanguay who each scored four goals and had an assist. 

 

Leading the way for Curry was Ashley Hansbury who scored 10 goals and dished out three assists.  Curry’s Nikki MacKay (Framingham, Mass.) recorded six goals and had two assists for the Colonels.

 

Picking up the win in net for NEC was Alexandra DiRico (Limerick, Pa.) who recorded 10 saves on the afternoon.  Seeing the bulk of the time in net for Curry was Kerri Shaw (Arlington, Mass.) who finished with three saves.
