Baseball Snaps Losing Streak
New England College baseball snapped a nine game losing streak splitting a double-header with the Eastern Nazarene Crusaders Saturday afternoon in Henniker. The split moves the Pilgrims to 6-20 overall and 2-14 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The split moves the Crusaders to 6-22 overall and 3-13 in the conference.
In game one the two teams would battle through a scoreless opening two innings before the Crusaders would get two runs in the top half of the third. The Pilgrims would answer scoring two of their own in the fourth thanks to and two-run double by Dan Pratt (Concord, N.H.) tying the game at 2-2. Eastern Nazarene would go on to add single tallies in both the fifth and the sixth heading into the seventh up 4-2. The Crusaders would go on to explode for four more runs in the seventh including a three-run homerun by Josh Daniels (Smithsburg, Md.) as Eastern Nazarene would go on to cruise to the 8-2 victory.
Leading the way for Eastern Nazarene was Jarred Wiedenroth (Swampscott, Mass.) who finished with two hits and two runs batted in. ENC’s Steve Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) and Tyler Nicholson (Vancouver, Wash.) each grabbed two hits for the Crusaders. Picking up the win on the mound was Justin Denbow (Readfield, Mass.) who allowed two earned runs on four hits in seven innings of work.
Leading the way for NEC was Dan Pratt who double in two runs for the Pilgrims.
In game two the Pilgrims would get on the board first as Joe Clark (Newcastle, Maine) would double in a run to put NEC up 1-0. ENC would get the run back in the top of the second as Justin Denbow would single in a run tying the game at 1-1. The two teams would exchange runs in both the third and fourth innings heading into the fifth tied at 4-4. NEC would jump ahead of ENC in the fifth as the Pilgrims would score a run but the Crusaders would muster a run in the top half of the seventh sending the game into the home half of the seventh tied at 5-5. NEC’s Jimmy Lauzon (Manchester, N.H.) would open the inning with a single, advance to second on a sacrifice and move to third on a wild pitch. NEC’s Scott Miller (Hillsborough, N.H.) would follow with a single in the hole, scoring Lauzon and carrying the Pilgrims to the 6-5 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was P.J. Crowley (Pawcatuck, Conn.) who finished with two hits and two runs scored. NEC’s Joe Clark finished with a double and two runs batted in. Picking up the win on the mound was Phillip Achee (Clinton, Conn.) who pitched the final two innings allowing a run on four hits.
Leading the way for Eastern Nazarene College was Tyler Nicholson and Jarred Wiedenroth who each finished with two hits and a run scored. ENC’s Justin Debow chipped in two hits and Josh Daniels homered for the Crusaders.
