Baseball swept by league-leading Curry College
New England College baseball was swept by the league-leading Curry College Colonels Sunday afternoon in Henniker. The losses drop the Pilgrims to 5-17 overall and 1-11 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC.) The wins improves the Colonels to 17-3-1 overall and 10-1-1 in the TCCC.
The Pilgrims would get on the scoreboard first in game one scoring an unearned run in the bottom half of the first inning. Curry would tie the game in the fifth inning and score two runs in the sixth inning to go up 3-1. The Pilgrims would get one run back in the bottom of the sixth but the Colonels would score a pair of insurance runs in the seventh on their way to the 5-2 win.
Leading the way for NEC was Matt Leger (Concord, N.H.) and Scott Miller (Hillsborough, N.H.) who each picked up two hits. On the mound for the Pilgrims was Ryan Blaine (Concord, N.H.) who pitched five innings allowing three earned runs on two hits.
In game two the Colonels exploded for 19 runs on 22 hits cruising to the 19-0 win over the Pilgrims. Curry would score in every inning but the seventh, including an impressive seven-run second inning and a five run third inning.
NEC’s Joe Clark (Newcastle, Maine) and Matt Leger each doubled for the Pilgrims.
