New England College field hockey would net two goals in the second half lifting them past the visiting Salve Regina Seahawks 2-0 Saturday in TCCC Quarterfinal action. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 13-7 overall and advance to the TCCC Semifinals. With the loss the Seahawks finish their season with an overall record of 8-11.

The two teams would battle through a scoreless opening half of play as the Pilgrims would outshoot the Seahawks 10-2.

NEC’s Marisa Ayotte (Feeding Hills, Mass.) would break the scoring drought just 3:56 into the second half as she would score off a nice feed from senior Khatianna Evans (Wayne, Maine) putting the Pilgrims up 1-0.

The Pilgrims would control much of the offense in the second half as the Seahawks would muster just one shot in net.  Forward Samantha Escobar (Rumney, N.H.) would give the Pilgrims some breathing room late as she would net her team-high eighteenth goal of the season with just over five minutes remaining on the clock.

NEC would finish the game out shooting Salve Regina 22-3 and hold the 20-4 advantage in corners.

Picking up the shutout win in net for the Pilgrims was Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) who finished with three saves.  In net for Salve Regina was Devin Eppley (Darien, Conn.) who stopped an impressive 15 shots.

New England College will travel to take on the #1 seed Endicott College on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 1:30 p.m. in TCCC Semifinal action.
