New England College field hockey picked up their first conference win of the season defeating rival Gordon College 4-2 Friday night in Wenham. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The loss drops the Scots to 0-6 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

The Pilgrims controlled much of the offense in the opening half of play scoring three unanswered goals to take the early 3-0 lead.  NEC opened the scoring 11 minutes into the game as Miranda Tinsman (Belgrade, Maine) netted her second goal of the season assisted by Samantha Escobar (Rumney, N.H.)  NEC’s Emily Kuchta (Norwalk, Conn.) would put the Pilgrims up 2-0 just minutes later as she would score off a pass from defender Jamie Johnson (Lynnfield, Mass.)

The Pilgrims would tack on a final goal just before halftime as Escobar would connect with her team-high sixth goal of the season putting NEC up 3-0.

The Scots would get on the board early in the second half as Samantha Neverett would score four minutes in.  Gordon would cut the NEC lead to just 3-2 at the 49:17 mark as Leah LaPalombra would net an unassisted goal.

The Pilgrims would respond as Kate Carnaroli (Bellingham, Mass.) would give NEC some breathing room with just under three minutes to play in regulation.

Picking up the win in net was Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) who finished with six saves.
