Field Hockey cruises past WNEC
NEC’s Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H.) netted two goals and pick up an assist leading the Pilgrims past the Western New England College Golden Bears 4-1 Saturday in Springfield. With the win the Pilgrims extend their winning streak to eight games improving to 14-4 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The loss drops the Golden Bears to 3-15 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
NEC would get on the board early as Brianna Gerrior (Gloucester, Mass.) would net her fourth goal of the season unassisted just 14:28 into the opening half. The Pilgrims would extend their lead to 2-0 minutes later as sophomore forward Marissa Ayotte (Feeding Hills, Mass.) would score off a pass from Dresser at the 26:12 mark.
Dresser would give the Pilgrims the 3-0 lead in the second half of play scoring her team-high 16th goal of the season unassisted in the 52nd minute. Western New England’s Tara Breslawski would respond getting the Golden Bears on the board just six minutes later cutting the Pilgrim lead to 3-1. Dresser would get the goal back as the senior captain would net her second goal of the afternoon with just under four minutes remaining giving leading the Pilgrims to the 4-1 victory.
Picking up the win in net for NEC was Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) who finished the afternoon with five saves.
