New England College field hockey lost their first game of the 2008 season falling to Wellesley College 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Wellesley. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 5-1 on the season, while the Blue even their overall record to 2-2 on the season.


 

The two teams would battle through a scoreless opening 25 minutes of play before Wellesley’s Kathryn Frett would score a goal off a corner at the 26:11 mark putting the Blue up 1-0.

 

The Pilgrims would tie the game 18 minutes into the second half as Marissa Ayotte (Feeding Hills, Mass.) would score her sixth goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.  The Blue would answer as Dana Trail would score less than a minute later to regain the one goal lead. 

 

The Pilgrims would outshoot the Blue 6-5 in the second half but would be unable to net a goal in the final minutes of the second half as the Blue would hold on for the 2-1 victory.

 

In goal for the Pilgrims was Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) who finished the game with six saves.
