Hughes named September Athlete of the Month

New England College women’s soccer keeper Kerry Hughes (Wallkill, N.Y.) has been named New England College’s September Athlete of the Month.


Hughes worked to lead the Pilgrims to an overall record of 4-4-1 and a 2-2-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) record throughout the month of September.

 

Hughes played every minute in goal for the Pilgrims allowing just 13 goals and picking up 74 saves.

 

Hughes is tied for first in the TCCC in shutouts with five on the season and became the NEC leader in career shutouts this month totaling 17 in her career. Kerry is also ranked fourth in the TCCC in saves per game averaging 7.4 and ranked sixth in save percentage with a percentage of .851.

 

Hughes was named TCCC Defensive Player of the Week and the ECAC New England Defensive Player of the Week for her performance throughout the third week of the season.  For the week Hughes recorded two shutouts, including a scoreless tie with in-state rival Colby-Sawyer and a 1-0 win over Green Mountain College.
