Hytner's late goal lifts Pilgrims past Crusaders
New England College midfielder Veronica Hytner (St. James, N.Y.) would net an unassisted goal in the 87th minute lifting the Pilgrims past the Eastern Nazarene Crusaders 1-0 Tuesday evening in Quincy. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 5-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play. The loss drops the Crusaders to 5-8 on the season and 3-4 in the conference.
The Pilgrims would break the scoreless tie late in the second half of play as Hytner would connect for her third goal of the season converting on a free kick in the 87th minute.
The Crusaders would finish the game out shooting the Pilgrims 19-5 and hold the 6-0 advantage in corners.
Picking up the shutout win in goal for NEC was Kerry Hughes (Wallkill, N.Y.) who finished with seven saves. Eastern Nazarene goalie Britney Hislop finished with a save.
Eastern Nazarene College will try to end their three game slide when they face Colby-Sawyer this Saturday, and New England College will try to win their second straight when they square off against University of New England this Saturday at noon in Henniker.
