Lyons picks up All-Conference honors
New England College women’s soccer fell just shy of making The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) playoffs finishing their season with an overall record of 7-10-1 and a conference record of 5-7-1.
The Pilgrims were led this season by TCCC 2nd Team All-Conference forward Debbie Lyons. Lyons (Wilmington, Mass.) finished the season leading the team in almost every offensive category including points with 21 and goals with nine. First-year forward Crystal Berry (Northfield, Vt.) finished second on the team in goals with four on the season and senior midfielder Alexandria Sacco (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished tied for second on the team in points finishing the season with three goals and three assists. First-year midfielder Veronica Hytner (St. James, N.Y.) led the Pilgrims with five assists which ranked her ninth in the TCCC in assists per game and sophomore Katie Haynes finished the season with two goals.
On defense the Pilgrims were led by juniors Stevie Hayes (Hopkinton, N.H.) and Amy Searle (Sandwich, Mass.) who helped hold opponents to just 1.91 points per game. Junior goalkeeper Kerry Hughes (Wallkill, N.Y.) anchored the Pilgrims defense playing 18 games in net and finishing with a record of 7-10-1. Hughes finished the season ranked third in the TCCC in total saves with 143 and third in the TCCC in saves per game averaging 7.94 per game.
