Men's Basketball drops game to Nichols
Nichols College’s John Costello (Tolland, Conn.) scored 20 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds leading the Bison past NEC 95-62 Saturday afternoon. With the win the Bison improve to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 2-12 overall and 0-3 in TCCC play.
The two teams would battle evenly through the opening 13 minutes of play before NEC would gradually build an eight point lead going up 35-27 with 6:56 remaining in the first. Nichols would have an answer as the Bison would end the half on an 11-3 run and head into the intermission up 46-43.
The second half would be all Bison as Nichols would open the half on a 25-2 run leading 71-46 just over eight minutes into the half. The Pilgrims would try to battle back but the Bison defense would hold NEC to just 18% shooting from the field in the second and cruise to the 95-62 victory.
In addition to Costello, Nichols College was led by Jeff Lindgren (Sturbridge, Mass.) who scored 20 points and Bryan Riley (W. Boylston, Mass.) who chipped in 16 points for the Bison.
Leading the way for NEC was Shane Hennessey (Plymouth, England) who finished with 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds. NEC’s Rafael Salado (Boston, Mass.) scored team-high 19 points for the Pilgrims and Eric Lenahan (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) chipped in 11 points for the Pilgrims.
