Curry College’s Quashed Simmons (Paterson, N.J.) scored a game-high 27 points leading the Colonels past the New England College Pilgrims 75-55 Wednesday evening. With the win the Colonels improve to 6-13 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 2-17 overall and 0-8 in the conference.

Curry College would score the opening bucket and never look back as the Colonels would not trail the entire evening.  The two teams would tie three times throughout the opening ten minutes as the Pilgrims would trail just 18-19 midway through the half.  The Colonels would build a lead late scoring the final six points of the half to head into the intermission up 40-27.

Curry’s Simmons would score two quick buckets in the opening seconds of the second half giving the Colonels the 17 point lead.  The Pilgrims would chip away at the Colonel lead down just 11 points with 12:02 remaining in regulation.  Curry would answer using an 11-4 run and eventually building a 26 point lead with just 2:24 on the clock. The Pilgrims would score three buckets in the final 1:30 of play but it would not be enough as the Colonels would cruise to the 75-55 victory.

Curry’s Mark Mastrullo (Billerica, Mass.) finished with 22 points and Daniel Singh (Lawrence, Mass.) chipped in eight points and seven rebounds for the Colonels.  Curry was also led by Chris Bonadies (Medford, Mass.) who led the team with nine rebounds and four blocked shots.

Leading the way for NEC was Eric Lenahan (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) who was 7-for-11 from the field finishing with a team-high 17 points.  NEC’s Rafael Salado (Boston, Mass.) was the only other Pilgrims in double-figures finishing with 12 points and Shane Hennessey (Plymouth, England) had a game-high 10 rebounds.
