New England College men’s ice hockey split their weekend road trip, beating UMass-Boston 5-2 on Friday evening but falling to Babson College 0-6 Saturday afternoon.


 

On Friday NEC first-year forward Olli Kalliosaari scored two goals and had an assist to help lead the Pilgrims past UMass-Boston. Kalliosaari would get the Pilgrims on the board first as he would net a power-play goal at the 10:38 mark in the opening period.  UMass-Boston would answer quickly as Wayne Sands would score on a Beacon power-play just under minute later knotting the game at 1-1.

 

The teams would enter the second period still tied at 1-1 but NEC’s Alex Muse and Dylan Exton would net back-to-back Pilgrim goals giving NEC the 3-1 lead heading into the final period. 

 

Kalliosaari would extend the Pilgrim lead to 4-1 just 44 seconds into the third period netting his second goal of the game assisted by Johan Granath and Emil Alengard.  UMass-Boston would score cut the deficit to two goals as John Hubbard would net another Beacon power-play goal at the 3:59 mark. The Pilgrims would regain their three goal lead as Johan Granath would score assisted by Kalliosaari and Eric Simonsson with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation.  The Beacons would be unable to muster another goal in the final minutes as the Pilgrims would cruise to the 5-2 victory.

 

Picking up the win in net for NEC was Aaron Harvey who finished with 34 saves

 

On Saturday Babson exploded for five first period goals as the Beavers cruised past the Pilgrims 6-0.  Leading the way for NEC was Sam Dielwart and Jared Mullen who each managed four shots on net for the Pilgrims.  Splitting time in net was Aaron Harvey who finished with 11 saves and Conner Sampson who recorded 12 saves on the afternoon.
