New England College men’s ice hockey would snap a two-game losing streak beating the St. Anselm College Hawks 5-1 Tuesday evening in Henniker. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 11-6-0 overall, while the loss drops the Hawks to 4-9-1 on the season.

The two teams would battle through the opening seven minutes scoreless before NEC’s Niko Uola (Turku, Finland) would score off a nice pass from Jeff Armando (Canton, Mass.) at the 7:20 mark.  St. Anselm would tie the game late in the period as Paul Snell (Groton, Mass.) would fire a shot past NEC keeper recording the unassisted goal with just 1:36 remaining in the period.

The Pilgrims would regain the lead midway through the second period as Olli Kalliosaari (Hattula, Finland) would net his fourth goal of the season at the 9:18 mark.  NEC’s Johan Granath (Stockholm, Sweden) would give the Pilgrims a two goal advantage heading into the final period as he would net a power-play goal at the 15:07 mark.

The Pilgrims would continue to control much of the offense in the final period as Kalliosaari would net his second goal of the game unassisted ten minutes into the third period.  NEC’s Armando would add an empty-netter in the final minute as the Pilgrims cruised to the 5-1 victory.

Picking up the win in net for NEC was Aaron Harvey (Milford, Nova Scotia) who recorded 28 saves on the evening.  In net for St. Anselm was Alex Wyse (Amherst, N.Y.) who finished with 29 saves.
