Men's Ice Hockey Sails to Victory
Henniker, NH – New England College mens ice hockey scored ten unanswered goals beating the Worcester State College Lancers 10-1 Tuesday evening. The win improves the Pilgrims to 10-2-2 overall, while the loss drops the Lancers to 1-14-0 on the season.
Worcester State would strike first as Matt Auwarter (Malverne, N.Y.) would net his first goal of the season assisted by Justin Brownstein (Wyncote, Pa.) and Mark Elia (Worcester, Mass.) just 2:27 into the opening period. NEC would respond with four goals, including two by Mark Ehl (N. Vancouver, B.C.) to put the Pilgrims ahead 4-1 heading into the first intermission.
NEC would continue to control much of the offense out shooting Worcester 23-4 in the second stanza. The Pilgrims would stretch their lead to 7-1 scoring three goals in the opening eight minutes and would tack on a late power-play goal to head into the final period up 8-1.
NEC would net two additional goals in the third period, including their third power-play goal of the evening with just under three minutes remaining to sail to the 10-1 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Mark Ehl, Alex Muse (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Paul Ruta (Pickering, Ontario) who each scored two goals and picked up an assist. NECs Mickey Serra (Coral Springs, Fla.) scored a goal and grabbed two assists and Jon Globke (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) assisted two goals.
Picking up the win in goal for New England College was Aaron Harvey (Milford, N.S.) who finished with 10 saves. In goal for Worcester State was Anthony Oliveira (Stratham, N.H.) who finished with an impressive 41 saves.
