Men's Lacrosse captures third straight win
New England College men’s lacrosse exploded for 12 first half goals lifting the Pilgrims past the visiting Anna Maria Amcats 16-6 Tuesday afternoon. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 5-4 overall, while the loss drops the Amcats to 1-8 on the season.
The Pilgrims would score six unanswered goals in the opening quarter of play and tack on the first two scores of the second building the early 8-0 lead. The Amcats would get on the board scoring three second quarter goals but the Pilgrims would continue to control much of the offensive tempo out shooting Anna Maria 22-4 and head into halftime up 12-3.
The Anna Maria defense would hold NEC to just two third quarter goals and two scores in the fourth but the Pilgrim defense would hang strong holding Anna Maria to just three second half goals and cruise to the 16-6 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Matt Carey (Medford, N.Y.) who finished with a game-high five goals and two assists. NEC’s John Gabriel (West Nyack, N.Y.) netted four goals and Phil DiFalco (Scarsdale, N.Y.) scored three times for the Pilgrims.
Leading the way for Anna Maria was Mike Saulnier (Wrentham, Mass.) who scored three of the Amcats six goals.
Picking up the win in net was Nick Acquaviva (Syracuse, N.Y.). In net for the Amcats was Anthony DiTommaso (Ashby, Mass.) who finished with eight saves on the afternoon.
