Men's Lacrosse drops one goal game to Mt. Ida
New England College men’s lacrosse fell short losing to the Mt. Ida Mustangs 6-5 Monday afternoon in Newton. This is the Pilgrims’ fourth one goal loss of the season dropping their overall record to 1-7.
The two teams would battle through a scoreless opening quarter before Mt. Ida’s Brett Conley would break the scoreless tie netting a goal with just 4:51 remaining in the second quarter to put the Mustangs up 1-0.
The Pilgrims would get on the board early in the third quarter as Carlos Gutierrez would score two goals in the opening 2:30 of the quarter giving the Pilgrims the 2-1 lead. Mt. Ida would battle back scoring the next four goals, building a 5-2 advantage with 10:25 remaining in the game. The Pilgrims would not go down quietly as Matt Vozzolo and Dillon Lantz would each score unassisted goals cutting the Mustang lead to 5-4.
Mt. Ida’s Frank Rozio would give the Mustangs some breathing room netting a goal with 5:41 remaining in regulation giving Mt. Ida the 6-4 lead. NEC’s Matt Vozzolo would score his second goal of the game just two minutes later but the Pilgrims would not be able to muster another goal as the Mustangs held on for the 6-5 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Matt Vozzolo and Carlos Gutierrez who each finished with two goals. In goal for NEC was Nick Acquaviva who finished the afternoon with nine saves.
