Men's Lacrosse drops playoff game to #16 ranked WNEC

New England College men’s lacrosse ended their 2008 season losing to the #16 ranked Western New England College Golden Bears 3-16 Tuesday afternoon in TCCC Quarterfinal action. With the loss the Pilgrims finish their season 4-12 overall and 3-6 in the conference.


 

NEC would battle keeping WNEC off the board for the opening 7:48 of the game but WNEC would rattle off four goals in the final seven minutes of the opening quarter to go up 4-0.  NEC would struggle to get something going offensively in the second quarter with just three shots but WNEC would tack on four more goals heading into halftime up 8-0.

 

NEC would get on the board early in the second half as Damian Carey would net his thirteenth goal of the season just seconds into the third quarter.  WNEC would score the next five goals building a 13-1 lead but NEC’s Pat Mellilo would score making it a 13-2 game after three quarters.  The Pilgrims would score another goal in the fourth but WNEC would tack on three of their own cruising to the 16-3 win.

 

Leading the way for NEC was Pat Mellilo who finished with a goal and an assist.  Splitting time in goal for NEC was Nick Aquaviva who finished with seven saves and Nick Fisher who stopped 10 Golden Bear shots.
