Men's Lacrosse edged by Roger Williams
New England College men’s lacrosse would score the lone goal in the fourth quarter of action but fall short losing to the Roger Williams Hawks 6-5 Saturday afternoon in North Dartmouth, Mass. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the TCCC.
The Pilgrims would jump out to the early 3-0 lead with two goals by Damian Carey and a goal by Matt Vozzolo in the opening ten minutes of play. Roger Williams would muster a goal late in the opening quarter cutting the Pilgrim lead to 3-1 heading into the second.
Roger Williams would control much of the tempo in the second quarter as they would net the first three goals to take their first lead of the game up 4-3 with 5:39 remaining in the half. The Pilgrims would answer as Matt Vozzolo would score his second goal of the game knotting the game at 4-4 but Roger Williams would score with just 53 seconds remaining in the half to head into the intermission up 5-4.
The offense would cool down in the second half of play as Roger Williams would take a 6-4 lead scoring the lone goal of the third period at the 12:36 mark. The Pilgrims would get within a goal cutting the lead to 6-5 with 12:19 remaining in the game but the Hawk defense would keep the Pilgrims off the scoreboard for the remainder of the quarter to capture the 6-5 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Damian Carey and Matt Vozzolo who each netted two goals for the Pilgrims. In goal for NEC was Nick Acquaviva who picked up 10 saves on the evening.
