Men's Lacrosse falls to #15 WNEC
The fifteenth ranked Western New England College Golden Bears held the Pilgrims to just four second half goals beating the New England College Pilgrims 15-4 Saturday night in Keene. The win improves Western New England to 7-3 overall and keeps them undefeated in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with a record of 6-0. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 2-8 overall and 2-4 in the TCCC.
The Pilgrims would battle to keep the Golden Bears off the board in the opening minutes but WNEC’s Mike Kelly would get the scoring going netting a goal at the 11:54 mark in the opening quarter. WNEC would go on to score two more goals in the next four minutes building a 3-0 first quarter lead. WNEC would continue to control much of the offense in the second quarter scoring six unanswered goals, including one with under a second remaining, heading into halftime up 9-0.
The Pilgrims would get on the board early in the second half as Damian Carey would net his seventh goal of the season just over a minute into the third quarter. WNEC would respond scoring the next four goals stretching their lead to 13-1 with 6:04 remaining in the third quarter. NEC would tack on a goal late in the third but WNEC would close out the quarter with a goal heading into the final quarter with the 14-2 advantage. WNEC would add a goal in the fourth quarter and the Pilgrims would net the final two goals of the game but it would not be enough as the Golden Bears would cruise to the 15-4 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Damian Carey (Medford, N.Y.) who scored two goals and Kyle Burke (Winnetka, Ill.) who picked up two assists. In goal for NEC was Nick Acquaviva (Syracuse, N.Y.) who finished with eight saves.
