New England College men’s lacrosse netted three goals in the final quarter of play lifting the Pilgrims past the Nichols College Bison 8-7 Wednesday night in Dudley. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 3-4 overall and even their conference record at 2-2. The loss drops the Bison to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

The two teams would battle through much of the first quarter scoreless before Nichols’ Brian Donnelly would get the Bison on the board with just 21 seconds remaining giving them the early 1-0 lead.  The scoring would pick up in the second quarter of play as the two teams would exchange goals throughout the quarter but it would be the Bison who would strike with 10 seconds remaining in the half, heading into halftime with the 4-3 advantage.

The Pilgrims would outshoot the Bison 15-4 in the third quarter but gain no ground as each team would net two goals sending Nichols into the final quarter up a goal.  NEC would score two goals in the opening five minutes of the fourth giving the Pilgrims their fist lead of the evening. NEC’s Ryan Von Uffel (Cold Harbor Springs, N.Y.) would net what would eventually be the game-winner just minutes later as the Bison would add just one goal late in the quarter.

Leading the way for NEC was Ryan Von Uffel, Phil DiFalco (Scarsdale, N.Y) and John Gabriel (West Nyak, N.Y.) who each netted two goals.  NEC’s Matt Carey (Medford, N.Y.) chipped in a goal and dished out two assists for the Pilgrims.  Picking up the win in net for NEC was Nick Acquaviva (Syracuse, N.Y.) who finished with 11 saves.
