Men's Soccer battles Roger Williams
New England College men’s soccer lost a tough battle to the Roger Williams University Hawks Saturday afternoon falling 2-0 in a game played in Bristol. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 9-5-3 on the season and 7-3-2 in conference play, while the win improves the Hawks to 10-4-2 overall and 9-1-2 in conference action.
The two teams would battle evenly through much of the opening half before Hawk forward Michael Patriarca would rebound in a shot from Archie Maoh at the 28:06 giving Roger Williams the 1-0 lead. The Hawk defense would be up to the challenge as they would hold the Pilgrims to just one first half shot on net and hold on to the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Pilgrim offense would continue to struggle in the second half as they would get off just four shots and not one on goal. Roger Williams’ Archie Maoh would give the Hawks some breathing room late as he would net a breakaway goal in the 71st minute lifting Roger Williams to the eventual 2-0 win.
Leading the way for NEC was Michael Healey who had the lone Pilgrim shot on goal. In net for NEC was Jon Mayo who finished the afternoon with 10 saves.
