Coast Guard Academy’s Thomas Cameron (Portland, Ore.) would score halfway through the second period to lift the visiting Bears past the New England College Pilgrims 1-0 in men’s soccer action on Saturday. The win lifts Coast Guard to 1-0 on the season, while the loss drops New England College to 0-1.

The two teams would battle closely through the first half of play as both teams would muster just two shots on goal.  Coast Guard would have several opportunities early in the second half but the Pilgrim defense would hold strong keeping the Bears off the board.

Coast Guard’s Thomas Cameron would break the scoreless tie striking a pass from Matt Zangle (Camp Hill, Pa.) past the NEC keeper at the 65:26 mark, putting the Bears up 1-0.  NEC would look to try and create some offense late but the Coast Guard defense would hold strong keeping the Pilgrims off the board.

Picking up the shutout win in goal for Coast Guard was Tim Olah (Glastonbury, Conn.) who finished with three saves.  In goal for New England College was Jon Mayo (Merrimack, N.H.) who finished the afternoon with five saves.

New England College will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 2 when they host Mass. College of Liberal Arts at 4:30 p.m. The Coast Guard Academy will host Mitchell College on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
