Western New England College’s Shawn DaCruz (Ludlow, Mass.) scored 26 minutes into the first half to lead the Golden Bears to a 1-0 victory over the Pilgrims of New England College on Saturday. With the loss, the Pilgrims fall to an even 4-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, while the win brings the Golden Bears to 5-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in TCCC action.

DaCruz would score on a long pass from teammate Nick Zarka (Farmington, Conn.).  Zarka’s pass cleared the heads of the Pilgrim defenders, and DaCruz was able to chip the shot over Pilgrim goalkeeper Pat Harkin (Scituate, R.I.) to score the only goal of the game.

WNEC net minder Kyle Bak (Cumberland, R.I.) recorded his third shutout of the year, turning aside four shots en route to the win.  Harkin registered five saves for NEC.

The Pilgrims return to action on Wednesday, September 30 when they host Curry College at 4:00 p.m.  The Golden Bears will also be in action on Wednesday as they travel to Eastern Nazarene College for a 7:00 p.m. match-up.
