Men's Soccer extends unbeaten streak
New England College men’s soccer won their second consecutive conference match-up beating the Curry College Colonels 4-2 Saturday evening in Milton. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 5-2-2 overall and remain undefeated in TCCC play improved to 3-0-1. The loss is just the second on the season for the Colonels who fall to 5-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the TCCC.
The Pilgrims would start the scoring early as forward Dean Smith (Schwenksville, Pa.) would score his third goal of the season just 4:50 into the opening half. NEC’s leading goal scorer Kagan Sinclair ( Marblehead, Mass.) would put the Pilgrims up 2-0 scoring an unassisted goal at the 20:17 mark.
Smith would strike again for the Pilgrims netting his second goal of the afternoon with nine minutes remaining in the first making it a 3-0 Pilgrim lead. NEC’s Peter Koskores (N. Andover, Mass.) would convert on a penalty kick just minutes later putting the Pilgrims up 4-0 with 2:30 remaining in the first.
The Colonels wouldn’t go down without a fight as Curry’s Sam Schwarz would net a goal before halftime sending Curry into the second half behind 4-1. Curry’s Jess Fishman would cut the Pilgrim lead in half scoring just 55 seconds into the second half but the Pilgrim defense would buckle down keeping the Colonels off the board throughout the final 44 minutes of play holding on for the 4-2 victory.
Picking up the win in net for the Pilgrims was Jon Mayo (Merrimack, N.H.) who finished with five saves on the afternoon.
