Men's Soccer falls to #22 Western New England
New England College men’s soccer fell to the #22 ranked Western New England Golden Bears 1-3 Wednesday night in Springfield. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 9-4-3 overall and 7-2-2- in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) play. With the win WNEC moves into first place in the TCCC with a conference record of 8-0-3 and an overall record of 12-1-4.
The Pilgrims would keep the high-powered Golden Bears off the scoreboard for the opening 34 minutes of the game before WNEC’s Dale Totman would net his tenth goal of the season at the 34:27 mark. WNEC would strike again just minutes later as Ryan Nugent would score off a pass from Brian Dill at the 38:06 mark putting the Golden Bears up 2-0 heading into halftime.
WNEC would extend their lead to 3-0 just seconds into the second half as Jason Sabia would score off a pass from Dan Hare just 45 seconds into the second. The Pilgrims would get on the board late as Peter Koskores would convert on a penalty kick in the 67th minute cutting the Golden Bear lead to 3-1. The WNEC defense would hold strong for the remaining 23 minutes holding the Pilgrims scoreless and grabbing the 3-1 victory.
Splitting time in goal for the Pilgrims was Jon Mayo who finished with six saves and Pat Harkin who stopped two shots.
