Men's Soccer ties with Gordon
New England College junior Rob Kennedy (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored two goals and dished out an assist despite tying Gordon College 3-3 in TCCC play. With the tie the Pilgrims set their record at 3-2-2 and 1-0-1 in TCCC play, while the Fighting Scots set their record to 3-2-1 and 1-0-1 in the conference.
NEC would score first in the 31st minute of the game as Kennedy headed in a pass from teammate Peter Koskores (N. Andover, Mass.). Gordon would tie it at 1-1 three minutes later with a free kick by Matt Horth (Akron, Ohio). The two teams would hold the tie into the half.
Scoring would continue just over a minute into the second half as Pilgrims junior Kagan Sinclair (Marblehead, Mass.) sailed a pass from teammate Kennedy into the top left corner of the net. The Fighting Scots would again even the score on a free kick by Horth. Gordon would take the lead in the 84th minute off of a breakaway goal by Dan Engburg (Bloomington, Minn.), only to have NEC retaliate a minute later as Kennedy would connect off of a pass from teammate Michael Healey (Bedford, N.H.). The two teams would then battle through two scoreless periods of overtime.
NEC goalkeeper Jon Mayo (Merrimack, N.H.) recorded ten saves on the day. Gordon goalkeeper Brian Schilling (Goffstown, N.H.) finished the day with nine saves.
The Pilgrims return to action on Wednesday, September 24 as the host Regis College for a 4:00 p.m. TCCC match up. The Fighting Scots also return to action on Wednesday for a conference home game against Roger Williams University at 3:30 p.m.
