NEC Breaks Purple Knight's Winning Streak

New England College men’s ice hockey snapped St. Michael’s College’s seven game home unbeaten streak defeating the Purple Knights 3-2 Friday evening in Burlington.


The win improves the Pilgrims to 11-4-3 overall and 6-3-3 in the ECAC East, while the loss drops the Purple Knights to 7-8-1 overall and 3-8-1 in the ECAC East.
 
St. Michael’s would start the scoring with Chris Healey netting a goal just 5:35 into the first period putting the Purple Knights up 1-0.  NEC would tie the game late in the first period with Mike Mullen scoring his ninth goal of the season assisted by Mike Carmody at the 14:47 mark.
 
The Pilgrims would grab the lead early in the second period with Bill McGinnis scoring just 55 seconds in putting the Pilgrims up 2-1.  St. Micheals’ John Burns would score at the 12:41 mark in the second to send the game into the third period knotted at 2-2.
 
NEC’s Johan Granath would score what would eventually be the game-winner just 2:02 into the third period assisted by Per Thunberg and Jon Globke.  St. Michael’s would hold the edge in shots in the third period out shooting NEC 11-8 and pull their goalie late but the Pilgrim defense held strong keeping St. Michael’s off the board and capturing the 3-2 victory.
 
Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Aaron Harvey who finished with 32 saves on the evening.
