NEC Softball wraps-up 2009 season
New England College softball finished their 2009 campaign with an overall record of 10-28 and a Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) record of 4-20. The Pilgrims returned from spring break with an impressive 7-4 record grabbing wins over Fisher College and Crown College. They went on to capture conference wins over Eastern Nazarene College, Gordon College and a sweep of Regis College.
Leading the way for the Pilgrims was first-year infielder Stephanie Freitag (Lakeville, Mass.) who finished the season with a team-best .344 batting average. Freitag led the team with four homeruns and finished second on the team in runs scored with 24 and runs batted in with 18 on the season. Senior outfielder/pitcher Deanna Brayton (Queensbury, N.Y.) hit .330, including a team-high 11 doubles and 19 runs batted in. Junior Kristen Purdy (Candia, N.H.) hit .329 on the season and senior center fielder Alexandria Sacco (Tewksbury, Mass.) hit .322 with a team-high 25 runs scored and also finished with 17 runs batted in.
Leading the Pilgrims on the mound was Deanna Brayton and Bethany Forshaw (Waterford, Conn.) who each finished with three wins. On defense the Pilgrims were led by Kristen Purdy who finished with a fielding percentage of .959 and Rachel White who had a fielding percentage of .933.
