NEC Wins Against Plymouth State Panthers
New England College women’s ice hockey would hold Plymouth State College scoreless beating the Panthers 10-0 Saturday afternoon. The win is the second straight for the Pilgrims who improve to 12-7-1 overall and 9-5-1 in the ECAC East. The loss drops the Panthers to 0-16-1 overall and 0-14-1 in ECAC East action.
The Pilgrims would start the scoring early as Shauna Pires (Cotuit, Mass.) would net her seventh goal of the season just 2:36 into the opening period. NEC would tack on another goal in the first period as Sarah Graham (Brampton, Ontario) would score her team-leading 17th goal of the season at the 7:32 mark. Plymouth would slow down the Pilgrims for the remainder of the first period holding them scoreless as NEC would head into the second stanza up 2-0.
The Pilgrims would explode for six second period goals, including a short-handed goal by Danielle O’Leary (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and two goals from NEC’s Sarah Tracey (Aurora, Ontario) giving the Pilgrims the 8-0 lead heading into the third period. NEC ‘s Danielle Taylor (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Emily Tanguay (Manchester, N.H.) would net third period goals as the Pilgrims would outshoot the Panthers 11-5 in the closing period and capture the 10-0 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Sarah Tracey who scored two goals and picked up two assists. NEC’s Sarah Graham scored two goals and picked up an assist, while Shauna Pires finished with two goals for the Pilgrims.
Picking up the win in goal for the Pilgrims was Danielle Giancola (Toronto, Ontario) who finished the afternoon with eight saves. In goal for Plymouth State College was Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) who finished with seven saves in two periods of work.
