New England College women’s ice hockey advanced to the ECAC East Semifinals by edging the University of Southern Maine 4-3 in one of four quarterfinal games this past weekend. The #3 seeded Pilgrims (14-10-1) will travel to Manhattanville College to take on the #2 seeded UMass-Boston Beacons (14-11-1) on Saturday, Mar. 8 at 5:00 p.m.

The two teams have met twice already this season with UMass-Boston taking both games from the Pilgrims.  Back on Saturday, Jan. 19 the Pilgrims traveled to UMass-Boston and allowed two third period goals as the Beacons would beat the Pilgrims 4-2.  NEC had to travel back to UMass-Boston on Feb. 15 and fell short again allowing three goals in both the first and second period losing 2-7. UMass-Boston beat the #7 seeded Castleton State College Spartans 5-1 last week in quarterfinal action to advance to the championship weekend.

The winner of Saturday’s semifinal game will take on the winner of #1 Manhattanville College vs. #5 Salve Regina University on Sunday, Mar. 9 in the ECAC East Championship at 2:00 p.m. Tickets for both the semifinal and the final will be available at the door.
