NEC Women's Hockey Edged by St. Anselm College
The New England College women’s ice hockey team fell to in-state rival St. Anselm College 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Manchester. The loss is the second straight for the Pilgrims who fall to 12-9-1 overall and 9-7-1 in ECAC East action.
The two teams would battle through a scoreless opening period as St. Anselm would hold the slight lead in shots out shooting the Pilgrims just 14-12. St. Anselm forward Cindy Lebel would get the Hawks on the board early in the second scoring a power-play goal at the 2:32 mark to give the Hawks the 1-0 lead. The Pilgrims would answer as Sarah Tracey would net her 14th goal of the season just minutes later at the 5:58 mark tying the game at 1-1.
St. Anselm would have seven power-play opportunities in the second half and would convert on two as Alexa Hingston would score the Hawks second power-play goal at the 8:47 mark to put St. Anselm up 2-1. The Pilgrims would have a few opportunities late in the game but were unable to muster a goal as the Hawks would hold on for the 2-1 victory.
In net for NEC was Mary Roux who finished with an impressive 46 saves. The Pilgrims will travel to play Southern Maine on Friday night before returning home to finish off their regular season on Saturday evening against Southern Maine.
