Pilgrims capture third straight win

New England College exploded for seven first half goals in route to a 7-1 victory over the Regis College Pride Saturday afternoon. The win is the third straight for the Pilgrims who improve to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) play. The Pride are still searching for their first win of the season dropping to 0-14 overall and 0-5 in the TCCC.


 

The Pilgrims wouldn’t waste much time as NEC’s Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H.) would score her team-high eleventh goal of the season unassisted just 4:42 into the first.  NEC would tack on two additional goals in the next six minutes including one from Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) and one from Ashley Simula (Bridgewater, N.H.) extending the Pilgrim lead to 3-0. 

 

Dresser would score her second goal of the afternoon at the 17:30 mark in the first and Kate Carnaroli (Intervale, N.H.) would score just over a minute later as the Pilgrims would build a 5-0 lead. The Pilgrims would tack on two goals in the final seven minutes of the first giving NEC the 7-0 advantage heading into halftime.

 

The Regis College defense would come up huge in the second half of play keeping NEC off the board and holding the Pilgrims to just nine shots.  Regis’ Alexandra Kluchnick (Bellingham, Mass.) would get the Pride on the board netting her second goal of the season at the 58:29 mark. 

 

Leading the way for NEC was Kate Carnaroli and Jodie Dresser who each scored two goals.  Leading the way for Regis College was Elizabeth Kluchnick (Intervale, N.H.) who came up huge defensively recording three defensive saves on the afternoon.

 

Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Jesse Kilcullen (N. Salem, N.Y.) who finished with three saves.  In goal for Regis College was Kristen Tavares (Accushnet, Mass.) who finished with an impressive 17 saves.

 

NEC returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15 when they host in-state opponent Plymouth State University at 3:30 p.m. Regis College will travel to take on conference opponent Anna Maria College on Monday, Oct. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
