Pilgrims Continue to Stifle Opposing Offenses
NEC’s Heather DiNapoli (Concord, N.H.) had a stick in all four Pilgrim goals on Saturday helping to lead the Pilgrims to their third straight shutout win of the season beating Western Connecticut State 4-0 in Danbury, Conn.) With the win the Pilgrims remain undefeated on the season improving to 4-0, while the loss drops Western Connecticut to 1-2 overall.
NEC’s Brianna Gerrior (Gloucester, Mass.) would start the scoring for the Pilgrims recording her first goal of the season off an assist from DiNapoli 18:30 into the opening half. The Pilgrims would tack on two more goals before halftime, including scores by Marisa Ayotte (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H.) both assisted by DiNapoli, giving NEC the 3-0 halftime advantage.
DiNapoli would score NEC’s fourth and final goal late in the second assisted by Ayotte to give the Pilgrims the 4-0 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation. The Pilgrim defense would continue to stifle opposing offenses keeping Western Connecticut off the board while being out shot 16-12 on the afternoon.
Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) who finished with 12 saves. Roux has been phenomenal on the season allowing just one goal in 271 minutes of play and recording two shutouts already on the season.
