Pilgrims fall short to WNEC in ECAC Quarterfinal
New England College women’s lacrosse would record seven second half goals but it would not be enough as the Western New England College Golden Bears would top the Pilgrims 15-10 in ECAC Quarterfinal action Wednesday afternoon. With the win the Golden Bears advance to the semifinals and will face the #1 seeded Roger Williams University Hawks on Saturday. With the loss the Pilgrims finish their season with an overall record of 10-9.
The Golden Bear offense would come out on fire in the opening half scoring the first five goals before NEC’s Brandi Vittum would get the Pilgrims on the board at the 12:56 mark. WNEC would respond with six straight goals over the next 10 minutes building an 11-1 lead with 2:32 remaining in the first. NEC would close out the half with goals by Emily Kuchta and Lauren Bickford as the Pilgrims would head into halftime trailing 3-11.
The Pilgrims offense would battle back in the second half of play out shooting the Golden Bears 23-15. NEC would use four straight goals, including two by Amanda Naime to cut WNEC’s lead to 13-8 with 9:42 remaining in regulation. The two teams would exchange goals late in the half as the Pilgrims would be unable to complete the comeback and fall to the Golden Bears 10-15.
Leading the way for NEC was Amanda Naime who netted three goals and had an assist. NEC’s Jodie Dresser finished with two goals and an assist and Emily Kuchta scored twice for the Pilgrims.
In goal for NEC was Alexandra DiRico who finished with an impressive 22 saves on the afternoon.
