New England College women’s ice hockey struggled to find the net falling to the University of Southern Maine Huskies 0-3 in Saturday’s ECAC East Quarterfinal match-up in Gorham. With the loss the Pilgrims finish their 2008-09 campaign with an overall record of 11-13-1. With the win the #3 seeded Huskies improve to 14-8-4 on the season and advance to the ECAC East Semifinals at Manhattanville next weekend.

The two teams would battle through the majority of the opening period scoreless before Southern Maine’s Amanda Shorey would intercept a pass in front of the Pilgrim net and score her third goal of the season at the 13:32 mark.  The Huskies would add another goal just under three minutes later as Shorey would score her second goal of the period poking in a loss puck putting Southern Maine up 2-0 heading into the second period.

The Pilgrims would have several scoring opportunities early in the second period as NEC would out shoot Southern Maine 7-5.  The Southern Maine defense would hold strong killing off two Pilgrims power-plays and keeping NEC off the board.

The Huskies would add a late goal in the final period as Mary Vaughan would convert on Southern Maine’s third power-play of the period giving the Huskies the 3-0 win.

In goal for the Pilgrims was Teraysa White who finished with 27 saves on the afternoon.
